Well-versed in the world of music, Canadian, Toronto-based Singer / Songwriter Rachael Bawn is
adopting a new role as an independent artist, bringing with her years as a BMG (NYC) recording artist.
A long line of radio tours, performances across Canada and the US, as well as her role as a volunteer
youth mentor. With travels from Malawi to Kenya as a World Vision Ambassador and visits to its people
in rural communities, deepened her conviction in how youth needs music to build bridges of empathy
and understanding. Also dedicated to and focused on her faith, Rachael is a known worship leader who
is leading positive change in Canada and world around her.
Her new single SNAPSHOT comes with an evolved purpose and new sound for Rachael. Both of which
are designed to capture her more mature persona, while retaining the same kindness, softness and
sweetness that her voice and music are synonymous with.
SNAPSHOT is the first song from Rachael’s upcoming new EP and is her observation on social media
inadequacy and the challenges of self-perception. SNAPSHOT highlights the struggle of trying to function
in an environment that is often not built on tangible realities. About the social media paradox of feeling
connected, while at the same time feeling disconnected. About the often times downside to mental health
in doom scrolling, comparing ourselves to others and the end result of feeling lonely and isolated. “I want
young people to know that it’s okay to be vulnerable and it’s ok to be scared – but have the courage to talk about what’s going on in your life. We all put these happy images of our life on social media but there’s often another story behind the story. Young people need to realize they’re not the only ones living in that … that it’s ok. That that’s more common then they realize.”
Rachael’s songs address life, hurt, and grief. Speaking more specially to young women, her songs are built
on her experience and the challenges faced around self-image, insecurity, peer pressure and bullying. With
a goal to guiding listeners through darkness to a place where listeners can realize their own strength and
courage, Rachael shares that “music is a mission for me. I want my songs to inspire hope. To comfort,
replenish and to be accessible in their subject matter”. Written with songwriter Rosanne Baker Thornley
and Ben Pelchat also Producer, recorded and mixed at Kensington Sound in Toronto, Canada.
